My family used to love Govenors for their Nacho’s, it was a go to favorite that always our need for bar food. Governors was a landmark in Moline for some time. I would describe their Nacho’s as stacked tall and yummy. Last September after Governors closed Steel Plow has totally renovated the site and has done this site proud. They have updated everything the building, and the menu is without compare. The new management is downright visionary. You have to see it to believe it, I tried to capture our last visit through some photos.
Steel Plow is an uncommon burger place. Their tag line is Mother Nature wants you to eat grass-fed beef, so do we. Interesting choice given the mid-west tradition of choosing corn-fed over grass-fed. If you are into burgers another benefit is they serve beef raised without hormones and antibiotics. This is a real plus. Even my doctor has told me he is concerned about the level of antibiotics served in todays beef.
The first thing that caught my eye was the parking lot, you can see an updated building and the sign outdoors and the building itself
I am a Pescatarian, I only eat animal protean that comes from Fish so lent is sort of like Christmas for me every year. I ordered the Seafood Nachos; fresh-cut corn tortillas, layered with queso cheese, crab, shrimp, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, red onions, black olives and large chunks of avocado. The serving is generous, it comes served on a pizza platter ( I put my iPhone in the photo for scale). I wasn’t able to eat even half of the order, but also I wanted to save room for dessert!
Since I wasn’t able to finish them all, they offered a unique carry out solution.
Next up was the Strawberry Shortcake shake. It is served with actual cake on top, dripping with marshmallow creme and served with what I think are melted jolly ranchers.
My wife Denise had chicken strips, and a medley of four types of french fries. I would call this a mid-priced restaurant. The bill with tip for the both of us was $45 for lunch, which is not cheap, but well worth it for the quality food that you are getting. I expect to pay a little more for good service and good food.
For those who like to imbibe they also offer a full service bar.
You can find Steel Plow at 2180 53rd Street in Moline. I have attached an overview of the Quad-Cities to give you a sense of the location for those who might not get over to Illinois very often.
It is certainly somewhere we plan to return so we can explore their menu further. There are a lot of choices available and given the success of our last two meals I would love to try some additional new dishes. If you want to learn more about the Steel Plow, you can check out the rest of their menu and take time to visit their nice website at www.steelplowburger.com
